Can a Storyline Block in a Rise Course Send xAPI?

Can a Storyline Block in a Rise Course Send xAPI?

Yes, with extra work.

To add a Storyline interaction block in a Rise course, you must first publish the Storyline file to Articulate Review, so it’s available in Rise. However, when you publish a Storyline file to Review, it creates a SCORM package, which doesn’t support native Storyline xAPI functions. To compensate, you must first add triggers to the Storyline file that execute custom JavaScript that sends xAPI. You should test the Storyline file at each step: in Review; in Rise; and in your LMS.

A couple of our more intrepid customers have complex simulators that they authored to fit into a Storyline slide. The size, interactivity, and modularity of this one block justified the investment in effort needed to build it in Storyline instead of Rise, and to add custom JavaScript to send xAPI. The rest of the course, they authored in Rise.

Rise is easier for authoring simple tutorials than Storyline, but that convenience is a trade-off for other features, such as less “out-of-the-box” xAPI support.
